Working on:
Unit 6: Fix-Up Monitoring/Summarize Information (Week 1

· Phonics:

Book Reviews: Introduce the Genre of Book Reviews

Writing Prompts:
· Working on sounding out our own words and using our sight words in our sentences!!!!!!!!! for, no some) Ms. Rasicot will give writing prompts but will always challenges students to write their own sentence or two!
Daily Centers:
Read to Self: Students read books from their personalized book boxes
iPad: Students use the Raz Kids app to enjoy 1-2 stories. Afterwards, they can look at physical books, play a game, or work on Scratch Jr.
Word Work: students choose from a variety of activities that focus on sight words, letter work, CVC words, and rhyming
Work on Writing: Students will work on writing the letter Hh. Once finished with two handwriting sheets, they are invited to contribute to a classroom journal.
Listen To Reading: Students listen to the story and choose a method to summarize the story.
Creation Center: Students are given a variety of materials and are asked to simply create. They can build, do an art project, etc..
Math: Unit 4 - Partners, Problems, Drawings, and Tens
· 4.14: Partners of 10 with 5-Groups
· Objectives: find partners of 10 in 5-groups; record sets or partners for 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2; develop spatial concepts
· 4.15: Addition Equations
· Objectives: show teen numbers as a ten and extra ones; show teen numbers as 10 + 1-digit number, solve addition equations and explore addition strategies; order numbers 1 through 18
· 4.16: More Partners of 10 with 5-Groups
· Objectives: find partners of 10 in 5-groups; record sets or partners for 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2; develop spatial concepts
· 4.17: Introduction to the -1 Routine
· Objectives: create story problems (addition and subtraction), solve addition equations; order numbers 1 through 20
**Physical copies of math homework will no longer come home.
Math worksheets will be on this blog for those who wish to use them. This will
save lots of paper, and hopefully alleviate any stress regarding homework
responsibilities at such a young age. Looking at the math homework is still a
great opportunity for parents to see what students are working on in class.
Reading home practice sheets will continue to come home every Friday. Thanks!

Centers this week include:
Math Center: Students
will use their vegetables and fruit pictures to make addition and subtraction
problems. They can work with a classmate and come up with a real world
situation and try to make and math problem. Also, they may choose to build teen
numbers and use the Stop Motion App to record what they have made. (Some
students may choose to work on writing teen number or number 0 - 30 or beyond.)
iPad Read to
Self/Read to Others: students use Raz Kids to listen to a
story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story.
Students can also read a story with their partner or on their own. After
reading 2 stories, student have the choice to work on Scratch Jr. (a basic
coding program) or Dream Box.
Word Work: students
can choose to play roll a word, CVC word memory, CVC word puzzles, rhyme time,
or a variety of other CVC/sight word based games. Students are making lots CVC
words with short a, i, and o in the middle. This week also includes some new
letter/word board games.
Lots of choices! We
will discuss every how to choose something that we need extra help with or that
we want to get better at.
Letter and Sound: Students
will work on writing the letter Cc. They will circle their best work and be
encouraged to discuss their work on Seesaw.
Writing Center: Last week
the students listen to and made inferences while I read the book, Phooey. They
will be making their own books and then they can record their work in Seesaw.
Listen To Reading: Students
will listen to a story and then try to read it together as a group. They can
discuss what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Art Center: We will be
reading Eric Carle's, The Mixed Up Chameleon and painting our own mixed up
chameleons during centers.

- Send in homemade Valentines box/bag--if time is an issue, email me and your child can decorate a bag at school
- Treats can be sent in
- Please only have your child write From "your child's name," as this will make passing out Valentines much easier---we will pass out cards right away in the morning
