This week:

In second grade we celebrate Valentine’s Day during the whole school day, with Valentine themed things for reading and math.  I have bingo games and other activities planned.  We have the Valentine exchange during the day too, with the chance to read valentines and see who the cards are from.  We make the day special for all subjects.

We will celebrate on Thursday, February 14th.
Students are invited to pass out valentines to their classmates.
We have 22 students in the class.
Please just have you child write his/her name on the Valentines.
You may bring in your Valentines ready to pass out and a decorated box or bag beginning Monday, February 11th!
Students may bring Valentine treats with their Valentines. Please no treats with peanuts!  We do have some students that cannot eat certain treats.
Skittles and Starbursts are safe!
Also, one student has braces and cannot eat sticky things. I know he loves chocolate!!!!

I can't wait to see all the creative boxes and bags!

Reading: Unit 7 - Skill: Making Inferences & Making Predictions:
We will be starting a new unit involving making predictions. We will also be revisiting inferencing strategies as well.  Students will make educated guesses, or predictions, about what will happen next in a story by using clues (fiction) or evidence (nonfiction) along with what they already know.  Making predictions helps students make sense of a text and build interest as they read.  Making predictions encourages our early readers to keep reading to find out if what they think or predict will happen. We will also be finishing our animal research project.  The students are working on their research skills: detailed notes, listing facts and then using those facts in their own words in complete sentences.
