This week: 11/26 - 30

This week:

Morning Meeting Schedule: Each student will have a time where they can share.  We will start with a greeting and then students will have two minutes to tell a story, show or talk about something they would like to bring to share with the class.  They will ask for three questions or comments.  If they are bringing in an item to share, it must fit in their backpack.
Here is our schedule:

Mondays: Davis, Nolan, Audrey and Connor
Tuesdays: Lizzie, Brayden, Josiah and Elias
Wednesdays: Emmy D., Owen, Julia and North
Thursdays: Genevieve, Alonso, Emily O., Caden and Rory
Fridays: Jackson, Kaia, Rein, Amelia and Barbara

Our lesson from SecondStep (Social and Emotional Learning): We will be talking about Empathy: Lesson 9 - Showing Compassion

Spelling Words - Unit 10:
Words:       grow mow crow toe goes toast soap foam told most 
Challenge: yellow elbow poster smoke joke know coach toaster rowboat oatmeal

Your child can use spellingcity.com to help study their spelling words!

Reading: We are starting a new unit this week in reading.  Students will be analyzing story elements.
                 We will look at characters, settings, the problem in the story and then the solution.  
                  Students will summarize a story.

The Daily Five in Reading:
*Read to Self:  Read! Read! Read!
*Read to Someone: Reading to someone
*Listen to Reading: Working on RazKids
*Work on Writing: We will be writing sentence with our spelling words.
*Word Work - we will be working on sight words and working on fluency with reading passages

In Math:
We are beginning a new unit in math.  We will be learning about place value and will use this knowledge to add 2- and 3-digit number.

Science: We are studying Solids and Liquids in Science.

On Day 1 we go to: Gym and Media
On Day 2 we go to: Music
On Day 3 we go to: Media and Gym
On Day 4 we go to: Art (Please have your child bring back their library book so they can check out a new one on Day 5)
On Day 5 we go to: Gym and Media (Check out day)
On Day 6 we go to: Art and Music

Help your child remember to bring back their Friday Folders on Monday and bring a healthy snack every day!

*Read to Someone: Reading to each other, then take a reading counts quiz on book
*Listen to Reading: Working on RazKids
*Work on Writing: We will be writing a personal narrative book!!!!!
*Word Work - we will be working on sight words, no spelling words this short week

In Math:

*Work on Writing: Writing complete sentences with capital, spacing and punctuation in this weeks
                              writing journals.  Working on sequencing.
*Word Work - will be working on sight words, putting our spelling words into sentences
                          
Unit 3 - Skill: Determine Text Importance & Identify Sequence of Events:

We are moving into our third and final week of exploring sequencing and determining text importance.  We will read a Reader’s Theater called: The Day I Followed the Pickle - this play will help teach kids about the basic processes in the digestive system in a silly, fun way!  The kids will understand characters’ motives, actions, and feelings while building fluency and expression.  We will also be taking the unit assessment as well.


In Math:
We are beginning a new unit in geometry.  In Unit 4, we will be learning about shapes that have four sides.  Shapes with for sides are called quadrilaterals.  They can be a square, rectangle, parallelogram, and a quadrilateral.  Your child will learn to identify all of the terms that can be used to describe a quadrilateral. 
For example: a

is a quadrilateral, a parallelogram, a rectangle and a square!

We also will continue to do our math fluency timed tests.

Science: We are studying Solids and Liquids in Science.
