Wow, can you believe we will begin our final unit in reading this week!? Students will draw conclusion using clues in texts they read and what they already know.  Drawing conclusions helps readers make sense of a text.  We will also revisit inferencing - students will make inferences to help them draw conclusions. When readers draw conclusions, they use clues or evidence in the text and what they already know to figure out what the author does not state directly.

Unit 9 - Skill: Make Connections & Determining Cause and Effect
Throughout the week, students will identify cause and effect in pictures and text.  Students will learn that authors sometimes organize stories and information by describing what happened (effect) and why it happened (cause).  They will also begin to recognize signal language for cause and effect such as because, so, since, if...then, and as a result to help readers recognize cause and effect relationships.  It is important that students understand that cause and effect helps them recognize the relationship between events and understand how different actions might result in different effects.  Students will also make connections to deepen understanding of texts they read.
