Week 10 - November 5 - 8th

This week we will focus on:

Phonics: Lessons 39 - 42
Lessons 39 - 40 focus on qu words and the fszl Rule (f, s, z, and l are doubled after a short 
vowel sound)
Lessons 41 - 42 will focus on the ck blend and VCe words (the VCe - vowel, consonant, e - 
rule. This rule indicates that the vowel is long)
We will be working on sight words: where, there, where's, there's, I'll, you'll, won't, they,
they'll, they're

Monday:       Day No School
Tuesday:      Day 6
Wednesday: Day 1 GYM DAY - Bring helmet for skating!
Thursday:     Day 2 
Friday:          Day 3 Gym DAY - Bring helmet for skating!

On Day 1 we go to: Gym and Media
On Day 2 we go to: Music
On Day 3 we go to: Media and Gym
On Day 4 we go to: Art (Please have your child bring back their library book)
On Day 5 we go to: Gym and Media (Check out day)
On Day 6 we go to: Art and Music

Reading & Writing
Unit 3: Skill - Determine Text Importance & Identify Sequence of Events: 
We will continue to focus on the sequencing of events with the retelling of a story and in our writing. 
Students will learn vocabulary and concepts related to the life cycle of an oak tree. We will learn about 
the features of a non-fiction text which include the table of contents, an index and diagrams.

We will also be working on Figurative Language this week - Similes, Metaphors,

2nd Step: Unit 2 - Empathy - Lesson 5: Identifying Feelings
Concepts we will discuss:
*Clues in faces, bodies, and situations help you notice and understand how people are feeling
*Everyone feels a wide variety of emotions
*Some feelings are comfortable and others are uncomfortable
We will name a variety of feelings, distinguish between comfortable and uncomfortable feelings and
use physical, verbal, and situational clues to determine what others are feeling.

Tuesdays: Cora, Corben, Matias, Brynn, Maxwell

In Math:
We will continue Unit 2.  Unit 2 is focusing on using place value concepts to add, compare, 
and order numbers within 200 and students will begin working on fluency of adding within 100.  
We will also be working with money.
We currently are working on adding 2-digit numbers and money.

2nd Recess: 2:30 - 3:00

Science: We are working on our Matter Science Unit

In Lesson 4 we will talk about how being assertive means asking for what you want or need in a calm 
voice.  Also, being assertive is a respectful way to get what you want or need.
