Our Naturalist, Ms. Cristina, from Three Rivers Park came and talked about leaves and photosynthesis!
The students had a great time trying to find the different things that help leaves change colors!

Up to Lesson 20: Practicing short u and s blends (sp, st, sm, sc....) and contractions.

The students will have their 4th Spelling Mastery Test on Monday.
Lesson 21 - 24 will focus on short e and bl, cl fl blends

Reading &
Writing Unit 2 -
Skill: Visualize/Analyze Character:
We
completed our first Benchmark reading unit exploring main idea and
details. We will be moving on
to
analyzing characters and visualization.
Students will analyze characters through their actions, words, thoughts,
and feelings. Examining these
character
traits allows readers to make inferences about the character.
Understanding characters in a story also
helps readers better understand the story.
During the week we practice The Daily Five in Reading:
*Read to Self: Read! Read! Read!
*Read to Someone: Reading to a partner
*Listen to Reading: Working in Reading Eggs and Tumblebooks
*Word Work: working on sight words
*Word Work: working on sight words
Lunch/Recess is from 12:20 to 1:00
2nd Step: Lesson 1 - Being Respectful
In Lesson 1 students learn different skills on how to be in control of their behavior and emotions in order
to create a safe and respectful learning environment.

In Math:
We are working on Unit 1. We will continue to work on story problems. This week the problems have
too much, not enough and just the right amount of information.
We will work on comparison problems, two-step word problems and mixed problems.
2nd Recess: 2:30 - 3:00
Social Studies: Chapter 2. How Are Communities Different?
Students learn about the features, advantages and disadvantages of urban, rural and suburban
communities.

FALL CONFERENCE SIGN UP IS NOW OPEN IN SKYWARD FAMILY ACCESS
- From the Shirley Hills website, click on FAMILY ACCESS at the bottom of the screen.
- At the next screen, enter your Skyward Login information. (If you don’t have this information, please call Mrs. Clipper at 952-491-8409).
- If this is the first time you have tried to log into Family Access, the next screen that appears may ask you to change your password to something you can easily remember. Simply create a new password and click Save.
- When you get to your Family Access account, click on Teacher Conferences on the left side of the screen.
- If you have more than one child in the district, there will be a box for each student.
- To the far right of the student’s name, click on All Conferences
- On the next screen, find the HOMEROOM class. This may be the only class listed or it may be the last one in a list of five.
- On the line with the Homeroom class, click Select a Time.
- The next screen shows all conference times. Any available conference time slot will have the word SELECT to the far right.
- Click on Select for a time that works for your family.
- A small screen will pop up showing the teacher’s name, room number and the time you have selected. Click Save, and you’re done.
