This week we will focus on:

Phonics: Lessons 15 - 19
Up to Lesson 15: Practicing ee and sh and contractions: wasn't, who's, what's, aren't you're
Sight Words: who was what from are 

The students will have their 3rd Spelling Mastery Test on Monday.  The test will have words with ee, short a, short o and contractions. You can practice words with these sounds at home.

Lesson 16 - 19 will focus on short u and s blends and sight words said were, weren't

This Weeks Specialist Schedule:

Wednesday: Day 5 - CHECK OUT DAY!
Thursday:     Day 6
Friday:          Day 1

On Day 1 we go to: Gym and Media
On Day 2 we go to: Music
On Day 3 we go to: Media and Gym
On Day 4 we go to: Art (Please have your child bring back their library book so they can check out a new one on Day 5)
On Day 5 we go to: Gym and Media (Check out day)
On Day 6 we go to: Art and Music

Reading & Writing: Skill - Ask Questions & Main Idea/Details 
We will be moving into our third and final week of Unit 1, which had us focus on main idea and details. Students will practice read with a partner a play called: Under the Sea with Jacques Cousteau. Students will read the dialogue between characters at a varied pace and learn to utilize punctuation cues.  We will be focusing on expression and fluency as well as teaching the students how to use effective pacing so that their reading sounds like talking.  We are also working on common and proper nouns and writing complete sentences.

During the week we practice The Daily Five in Reading:
*Read to Self:  Read! Read! Read!
*Read to Someone: Reading to a partner
*Listen to Reading: Working in Reading Eggs and Tumblebooks
*Word Work: working on sight words
*Work on Writing:  Writing in our journals - students will be given a prompt: The prompt will be:


Lunch/Recess is from 12:20 to 1:00

MindUp!/2nd Step:
Our lesson is from MindUp! (Social and Emotional Learning): In lesson 3 we will be focusing on awareness: The Core Practice
What is the Core Practice? - Pause. Listen. Breathe. It can take less than a minute to cue our minds to relax and focus.  A short listening and breathing exercise introduced in this lesson helps children quiet their minds and get ready to learn.

In Math:
We are working on Unit 1.  We will be review making a ten to extend their fluency with addition and subtraction to totals through 20.  We will work on adding vertically, adding 3 and 4 number equations and working on story problems.

2nd Recess: 2:30 - 3:00

Social Studies: Chapter 1 - We will be talking about Communities
