Reading &
Writing Unit 7 -
Skill: Making Inferences & Making
Predictions:
The literary fiction big book we’ll be
diving into this week is a classic: The Ugly Duckling.
The story is about a baby bird that lives on
a river. We learn about him as he grows.
We will
build vocabulary and learn about concepts related to growing up and
being different. They will
use word and
picture clues to make before- and during-reading predictions. This is a great strategy
to practice whenever
your child reads or listens to a story at home!
This month we will be working on reflexive pronouns (myself, ourselves) and commas in greetings
and closings of letters.
Lunch/Recess is from 12:20 to 1:00
Then Sharing:
Mondays: Liam, Wes, Augie, Elizabeth, Brody

In Math:
Your child is beginning a new unit on time. You can help your child link the time concepts learned
in school with the real world. Together, look for clocks in your home. You might search for watches,
alarm clocks, digital clocks during breakfast and say, "We usually eat breakfast at this time. It is
7:30 a.m. In this unit, your child will learn to tell time to the hour, half hour, quarter-hour and five
minutes.
We will also work on tally charts, horizontal and vertical bar graphs.
In Social Studies: We will be finishing up Chapter 4 - What Is Geography and start on Chapter 5 -
How Do People Use Our Environment.
